Do you like hot baths? Hot tubs? The feeling of a warm washcloth on your face? If so, we predict you would like a hot stone massage.

Hot stone massages combine the best of a regular Swedish massage with the use of heated stones. The temperature of the stones is safe for the therapist to hold in her hand, and safe for you to have rubbed on your skin. The stones penetrate deep into your muscles and tissues, promoting greater relaxation and making the muscles easier to work with.

Hot stone massage is an ancient practice. It was used by the ancient Egyptians, and variations can be found in Ayruvedic medicine. Native American culture also uses hot stones in their sweat lodge ceremonies to help facilitate physical and spiritual cleansing.

Hot stone massage relaxes muscles and soft tissues, helps to alleviate pain, and improves circulation. It also reduces stress, promotes calm and relaxation, and increases joint range of motion.

The stones used are small enough to fit in the palm of the hand and smooth to the touch. The therapist starts with massage techniques that allow you to relax and begin to let go of stress and tension. When she uses the hot stones, she holds them in the palm of her hand while massaging. The heat from the stones penetrates deep into your muscles. This allows the therapist to work more effectively with the areas of your body that are of most concern, without exerting the kind of pressure that would cause additional pain. The heat softens muscles, facilitating the release of tension and restrictions that might not be possible without the added benefit of the stone therapy.
